Mac OSX Terminal Hack - Add Spaces in the dock

  • Mac Terminal - November 24, 2016

If you have a dock with way too many applications in it, it would be great to add spacers so that they could be organised. Since apple has no default way of doing this, a simple terminal hack is already built into your Mac so that your Dock could be organized in seconds.

  1. Open up Terminal (Command + Space: Type in “Terminal”)
  2. Paste this line of code:

    defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{tile-data={}; tile-type="spacer-tile";}'

  3. After that, type in: killall Dock

A transparent spacer should have now appeared in your Mac’s dock click on it to drag it and rearrange.

Repeat steps 1 & 2 for as many spacers as you require.
